Life Update: 5 Months After College Graduation

Howdy friend!

I’m not here to simply blab on and on about my life’s subtle dramas. I’m here to hopefully be helpful for anyone in the same boat as me. It’s been five full months since I walked across the stage, and life has shifted in major ways. Today, I’m sharing what changed and all the details that go with it.

So if you’re an early 20’s, big dreamin’ post college grad who’s just trying to figure his/her shit out. Well, welcome, we’re in this together.

I’m getting real honest about my business, career and chosen path for post grad. When I refer to “us or our” in this post, I mean Myles and I. BF of mine for 4+ years :’ ). I graduated from MSU-Mankato with an undergrad in Community Health Ed back in May. Here’s a snapshot of 5 major changes for me:

  1. Myles and I moved in with my parents. The decision to do this instead of rent a fancy condo in the Minneapolis area was a purposeful and thoughtful one. We knew that financially, living with my parents for a year or two after college was the wisest decision. We have loans to pay off and careers to adjust to (while also building our business by bootstrapping everything). We embrace this opportunity to live with my rents’ because 1. we pay a really amazing price for rent 2. my mom and dad makes great food 3. Opie loves my dad ~ in summary, we are really grateful for them and we know how lucky we are to be able to live with them.
  2. I took up a job as a nanny. I’m working with an agency based in Apple Valley, MN called Above and Beyond Nannies. I do before and after school pick up and drop off, along with some basic house duties for the family. It’s a REALLY amazing gig. With that being said, I didn’t go straight into the health field right after college (my mom didn’t fully approve of this). But I knew that I needed to find a no-brainer day job to support Coconut Whisk and all the big plans on our hearts. It’s not glamorous but this job allows me to fund our lifestyle and get our finances straight, while also freeing up my head space to create and build our business. It’s a sacrifice but I have full trust that this is the path that’s going to lead me to my supercharged dream life (and that includes becoming a full-time entrepreneur).
  3. Myles is working full time on Coconut Whisk and I’m working on it during my off hours from my day job. We made this choice because we knew that if we wanted our business to thrive, one of us had to put our entire energy into it. Myles took up that tasks with arms wide open. For me, I’m balancing day job and Coconut Whisk. It was a transition but we are pretty happy with the arrangements thus far.
  4. We are planning on by a place within a year or two! So we’re saving $ while chipping away at some of our student loans. We’ve been getting more involved in our finances and I plan on doing a future blog post on what I’m reading, my systems for managing money and all that jazz. Comment below if you’re interested in this topic! With all that being said, we are more mindful about our spending and how we are investing our money more than ever.
  5. We made it an intention to dive fully into the Twin Cities sphere. Adjusting to a new town has it’s ups and downs. We love the excitement and energy of this transition but we also have to navigate new social circles. For me, it’s about searching and cultivating a tribe that’s inspiring and mega uplifting. It’s like we’re dating but in the realm of friendship now. What I’m saying is that we’re pretty much in the market for friends. It’s a weird thing to say but it’s true. I’ve been searching for organizations and groups to be a part of a so far, we’ve met really amazing people.

So that’s what’s happening in the Life O’ Bella right now. To be completely honest, I haven’t been this happy about the way my lifestyle is structured in a long time. I love the freedom that comes with working a simple day job combined with my aspirations for growing Coconut Whisk. I feel that, for once, I feel that I’m truly building my dream life. And my dream life involves full freedom of my time. It means full freedom of my finances. And above all else, it means being able to contribute to the world as my authentic self while connecting with others in a truthful and real way.

What are you building right now? I genuinely want to know!

with all my heart,

Bella
